Facebook. I am torn between thinking it's the best thing ever, and hating it for being a major time-sucker in my life. I use it more than this blog, so why have both? Sigh.
I have found people I lost track of three decades ago. I keep up with my cousins, nieces and nephews, who are both numerous and located all over the U.S. I've even found a former co-worker who lives in Spain and commutes to Holland!
I just need to keep disciplined about using it....don't laugh!

Hi Lisa! It's Lisa (barncat) a Happy belated Birthday! I'll check in with you here, I refuse to get on facebook, I know I'm an undisciplined person!
ReplyDeleteI like having both Facebook and my blog, but I use them completely differently. My blog is geared towards talking / showing my interests; FB is geared towards keeping in quick & regular contact with very close friends.
ReplyDeleteI keep my friends list on Facebook to a bare minimum, and only have folks on there I emailed with regularly before I got on FB. I use it as a way to daily keep quick tabs on people who also use it for the same reason. We still email, but following each other's statuses daily on FB allows the emails to be less frequent. It's also a place I don't mind sharing pictures of my family with people who I would otherwise snail-mail those pictures too. I don't particularly like sharing pics of my family on my blog.
To keep FB from becoming a time-suck, I don't do any of the games or apps. I can be in and out of there in 10 minutes or less (unless I follow a link to a news article or something like that).
So using it that way works for me in a positive way. Initially I befriended people I hadn't talked to in ages, but over time I saw who was actually using FB and who wasn't, and that made it easy to pare down my friends list to just a handful of folks :).
All that said, if I had to choose between keeping only one (blog or FB), I'd keep the blog -- it brings me more enjoyment than FB (but that's just me!).
